When the class learns about the makhaarij, many of the students wonder why they need to learn them. Through a Makhaarij Talent Show, where the letters introduce their homes, the students learn that every letter has its own unique sound and special place inside the mouth and throat.

Along the way, young readers discover the five main makhaarij and learn how these special homes help us recite the Quran correctly. Written in an easy to understand and engaging manner, the book encourages kids to learn about the homes of the Arabic letters along with Ustaadha and her students as they begin a journey into the beautiful world of Tajweed.

Al-Jawf

The Air House

ا و ي

The home of the three madd letters. When their vowel friend is present on the letter before, their sound flows through the empty space in the throat and mouth.

Al-Halq

الحَلْق

The Throat House

The home of the six throat letters. Each pair comes from a different part of the throat, from the deepest area to the closest point to the mouth.

Al-Lisaan

اللِّسَان

The Tongue Palace

The home of the largest group of arabic letters. These letters are pronounced from different parts of the tongue, with each area producing its own special sound.

Ash-Shafataan

الشَّفَتَان

The Lips Garden

The home of the four lip letters. These letters are pronounced using the lips, with each letter having its own unique point of articulation.

Al-Khayshoom

الخَيْشُوم

The Nose Tunnel

The passageway for Ghunnah. This is where the nasal sound of meem and noon flow.

I’m Umm Noora (Ustaadha Asmaa). My journey with the Quran started when I was a young child just like you! At this young age, Allah blessed me to memorize the entire Quran and then I later went on to study the science of Tajweed. That early connection changed my life, and it's the exact same bond I hope to help children build today.

While I spend most of my time teaching adults, this story was born from my visits to Al-Qamar Home Learning Center, where I had the joy of teaching Makhaarij to some truly incredible young students, including my own daughter, Noora!

This series is inspired by my real students, their enthusiasm, their questions, and the memorable moments we shared while learning together.

This book is dedicated to making the concepts of tajweed simple, fun, and unforgettable to allow readers, both young and old, to feel excited and confident as they begin their own lifelong relationship with the Quran.
